Lectures

The new project of the civic association Kruh, a series of lectures and discussions titled “Matadors / Matadorkas,” aims to present prominent figures from the older generation of architects, whose work, primarily created in the 1960s to 1980s, is now forgotten. The presentation of the work of architects born around 1930 is intended to bring new insights into their creations and illuminate the circumstances surrounding the development of individual projects. We would like to use this project to revitalize examples of quality architecture from former Czechoslovakia.

Thu 02.04. 2009 Ivo Klimeš (* 1932)
Ivo Klimeš, a prominent architect from Ostrava, focused primarily on theater projects in his work. His most famous realization is the new building of the City Theater in Most (1968) and the reconstruction of theaters in Ostrava - the Antonín Dvořák Theater (1967) and the Jiří Myron Theater (1979). In his projects, he most often collaborated with designer Radim Ulman, who, in addition to the design of interiors and furnishings for Klimeš's buildings, also realized seats for the Estates Theatre in Prague.

Thu 07.05. 2009 Viktor Rudiš (* 1927)
The architect from Brno, a graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at VUT in Brno. In the 1960s, Viktor Rudiš, together with František Zouněk, participated in the project of the residential complex Lesná in Brno. This realization is considered one of the highest quality examples of housing estates in our country. Architect Rudiš, along with Zouněk, showed great commitment to the quality of individual residential and public buildings and a sense of urban placement of the massive complex in the landscape. Viktor Rudiš, one of the few, also focused on experiments in housing architecture. At the end of the 1960s, Viktor Rudiš was involved in the project of the Czechoslovak Pavilion at the EXPO in Osaka, which can be regarded as the culmination, in both artistic and content terms, of the exhibition successes of the Czech Republic in the second half of the 20th century.
