Karolina JIRKALOVÁ
HERE AND NOW. An attempt to probe into contemporary Czech architecture

Journalist Karolina Jirkalová will grasp contemporary architecture through its strong themes, inspirations, "schools," but also problems, hesitations, and absences. The aim is to find certain significant centers, contents, themes, and forms in which the diverse spectrum of Czech architecture condenses and gains strength. Or conversely, becomes sparse and reveals its weak spots. Don’t expect art history; rather curious observation.

Karolina Jirkalová (*1976), journalist, critic, and editor focusing on architecture, fine arts, and literature, graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague in 2003. From 2003 to 2005, she worked as an editor at Czech Radio 3 – Vltava. Since 2007, she has been the deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine Art&Antiques. She contributes to Lidové noviny, the magazine Era 21, and other media, and collaborates with the civic association Kruh. In 2008, together with Miroslav Masák, she editorially prepared the publication Architects Sial, and a year later participated in the book of interviews City Between Houses.
