Shortly after the Velvet Revolution, the founder of BEMATECH decided to venture into the unknown and establish a company in the Czech Republic, where people had just gained the long-awaited freedom. The risky move paid off, and for more than a quarter of a century, he has been successfully manufacturing custom shading technology. What successes does the company have, what is its story, and where is it headed?
Today, the company BEMATECH is known as a leading European manufacturer of indoor shading technology with over 25 years of tradition. It specializes primarily in the production of fabric roller blinds, wooden blinds, Roman shades, curtains, panel walls, and special shading systems for atypical surfaces. Its own research and development, focusing primarily on fabric roller blinds and shading for large surfaces, is exactly what differentiates the brand from others.
When the company started in the Czech Republic, the shading technology manufacturing sector essentially did not exist, and shading was hardly considered in architecture. At first, they organized training and overall familiarized the local environment with knowledge in the field and technical possibilities. Today, shading elements are a central component of projects—they play a significant role in heat permeability and energy calculations and, last but not least, form an interior addition. In addition to being a shading element in homes or offices, blinds can be used as a partition wall in open spaces or as a projection screen (when using special projection fabric).
„At BEMATECH, we say that we create what we call a healthy comfort zone. We can influence the intensity of incoming light, the intensity of heat, dampen unwanted noise, and create a pleasant atmosphere. All of this belongs in a healthy comfort zone.,” says the company’s founder Bernard Mullie. However, a pleasant atmosphere does not have to be associated only with home. The blinds, curtains, and shades manufactured by BEMATECH create a comfort zone in all buildings of the EU Council in Brussels, which is approximately 12,300 square meters of shaded window area. Thanks to a wide network of partners, you can find BEMATECH's shading technology beyond the borders of Europe, with further collaborations planned for 2022.
“With growing technological possibilities, there is also a certain pressure in the industry for continuous improvement, quality, uniqueness, and competitiveness. This has been one of the driving forces for our research and development team...”, the owner states, adding that “...it is precisely due to this that a global patent for ZOOMTECH® – a revolutionary system in the shading technology field that prevents tube bending and fabric deformation – could be created less than two years ago, which is now in demand across continents. I am proud that it was created right here in the Czech Republic, in BEMATECH.” Along with ZOOMTECH, the ZOOMTECH® Academy was established, composed of a team of academic scientists and engineers responsible for the development of the algorithmic generator ZOOMBOX® that allows supporting partners online in the production of blinds with the patented ZOOMTECH® technology at any time and anywhere in the world.
Another novelty brought by BEMATECH is a new trademark called 4INside.eu, focused on partition roller blinds V-PROTECT with a special antiviral, antibacterial, and antimicrobial surface treatment. Thanks to this surface treatment, V-PROTECT blinds can prevent the spread of infectious particles that adhere to the fabric of the blinds due to air flow. During 2 hours of contact time, they deactivate more than 99% of bacteria and viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19. The blinds significantly reduce the risk of infection and help create the aforementioned healthy comfort zone. In combination with the patented technology ZOOMTECH®, blinds can achieve up to 5 m in width on a tube with a diameter of 5 cm instead of the usual 15 cm, without any tube bending and fabric deformation.
With increasing demands for quality and design of products, BEMATECH also focuses on the smallest details, as well as on the future we leave for the next generations. For this reason, the company continuously improves, modernizes, and streamlines manufacturing processes while reducing their energy consumption. They strive to cover energy consumption from renewable sources. They mainly use environmentally produced and processed materials, which they obtain primarily locally, thereby minimizing the need for air transport which has a drastic impact on the environment. Aluminum, plastics, paper, and packaging materials are used with maximum efficiency, and scraps are recycled. “Our products also help optimize the use of natural resources such as light and heat, making them an active element in energy saving and thus a great addition to energy-efficient homes. This year, we had solar panels installed on the roof of the company, which have become another of the many ways we contribute to environmental protection every day.”, emphasizes Bernard Mullie.
“In the coming year, efforts will continue on further development of blinds, ZOOMTECH® technology, and related collaborations with companies in the USA, Japan, and other countries. We also plan to unveil our new fabric collections and a range of other novelties. The development of V-PROTECT blinds will also continue, allowing us to create a safer environment for our families, clients, and employees. Our long-term goal is growth, to evolve, and to continuously push the boundaries in both professional and personal spheres, to inspire and help where needed.”
