On the southern shore of the German lake Geierswald, two floating recreational structures with unusual architecture and extraordinary facade requirements are currently docked.
The Wild siblings invested a total of six years in planning and development work for the floating structures project at the Lausitz resort. During this time, they carefully refined all architectural and technical details, such as the modular pontoon system, which had to be reinforced to support the weight of the glass-steel construction above the lake surface. Geierswalde Lake, along with all the tributaries of other rivers in the Brandenburg and Saxony regions, was artificially created on the sites of former brown coal surface mines. Therefore, the water in the lake has a very low pH, which is harmless to humans but can cause corrosion and lead to significant degradation in construction materials. The question thus remained which facade system would withstand the acidic water of Geierswalde Lake (pH value: 3.8) over the long term without optical, functional, and qualitative damage.
Aluminum – enduring quality at the highest level The distinctive semi-circular architecture of the residential and recreational houses resembles enormous sunshades, which serve as both the roof and the facade of the otherwise rounded fully glazed steel structure. The covering of these semi-arcs had to be made of a material that ensures appropriate flexibility and bending during installation. Even more importantly, the covering needed to withstand the damaging effects of the ubiquitous acidic water. The Wild siblings' initial consideration led to zinc and the form of profile waves. However, both options were found to be unsuitable. In the end, a meeting with expert consultant Jens Lindner from Prefa provided the perfect, durable, and stylish solution in the form of the Prefalz aluminum facade.
Permanent design – Prefalz Prefalz in metallic silver color fits perfectly into the overall image of the modern glass and steel construction. The high flexibility of the material and its processing allowed for the installation of the covering, including all details, at the highest quality, exactly as the Wild siblings envisioned and desired.
Professional installation – guarantee of success The actual placement of the floating recreational structures on Geierswalde Lake does not pose any complications for the Prefalz roof construction. Aluminum excels in corrosion resistance, strength, shatterproof properties, and a very long lifespan. Since unique roof shapes can be realized in the highest possible quality, it was decided to use Prefalz material with a double standing seam. Due to the appropriate arrangement of the fasteners for the individual batches, very high wind load resistance was achieved. Increased humidity occurs in the vicinity of the water. This issue was resolved by carefully laying drainage fabrics that ensure safe and efficient removal of excess moisture. The high demands of the Wild siblings were thus met in this case as well. When an observer stands directly in front of the unique facade of the pontoon house, they will surely notice the clean and smooth processing of the material used, which required special attention during installation.
