The company Alheemouw, a developer primarily operating in the Belgian market, decided to build its new headquarters in a spirit of environmental sustainability that is inherent to them. The building, designed by B2Ai studio, aimed to showcase their technological and structural advancement in which they excel.
The modern transparent building, dominated by glass, concrete, and aluminum, is situated within a rural residential area in West Flanders. The circular structure does not define the front and back of the building in a traditional way; instead, it is a compact body with a circular floor plan and a double envelope. The two-layer external envelope of the building is composed of a transparent layer of glass infills and a casing of copper vertical panels. These serve partially as sunshades while fully demonstrating the technological complexity of the building's execution. The inner atrium of the building, like the outer envelope, is completely glazed, maximizing daylight in the interior and providing occupants with the highest possible contact with the surrounding world.
The interior of the building is designed in neutral tones of white, gray, and black. The walls, polished floor, and most of the furniture are white, the ceiling is made of exposed concrete representing gray, and black accents appear in the lighting fixtures, window frames, and selected wooden walls. The open workspace is divided only by clear glass partitions, making the entire space of the building visually comprehensible and organized.
Most of the building consists of office spaces, so the architects placed great emphasis on the lighting aspect of the project. They consulted with Delta Light for its design, which proposed two key lighting profiles called Streamliner and Femtoline. These are mounted to the ceiling and walls and recessed into wooden ribbing on the walls. All the profiles were custom-made for the project, with their execution, length, light sources, and other specifications created precisely according to the architects' requirements and the demands of the space. To ensure quality, diffused light suitable for all-day work meeting the required intensity and other parameters according to the relevant standards was necessary. This was provided by the profiles located above each workstation. They were complemented by surface-mounted ceiling reflectors You-Turn On.
