Velaa is a beautiful pristine island located in the transparent waters of the Indian Ocean. Velaa Island politically belongs to the Maldives and means Turtle in the local language. Originally an uninhabited coral island, it was leased in 2011 by Czech entrepreneur Jiří Šmejc for 50 years. He built one of the most luxurious hotel resorts in the world named Velaa Private Island Maldives. This private paradise on earth is intended for the most demanding clientele from around the world, with 45 stunning luxury villas featuring private beaches and pools, three Michelin-starred restaurants, a wellness center, a spa, and a golf course, all prepared for their fairytale vacation.
The company Němec Luxury Surfaces was approached by the architect of this unique project, Petr Kolář, with a commission for surface finishing.
As it was necessary to use surfaces with extraordinary aesthetic and durable properties, the architect selected a unique surface from the portfolio of Němec - BETONEPOX®, which stands out for its hardness, maximum longevity, and water resistance, including seawater. This surface, with its cool and timeless beauty, satisfies even the most demanding clients and their needs.
Betonepox® was used on all exposed concrete surfaces, such as columns and ceilings in restaurants, parts of the floors in restaurants, entrance lobbies, outdoor showers near villas, floors of outdoor pavilions in combination with wood, concrete bases for all columns, entrance stairs at the Tower restaurant, and many other surfaces.
The total area of surfaces we realized was approximately 4,500m2.
Betonepox® is a unique technology developed and perfected by NĚMEC LUXURY Surfaces. It is a very hard epoxy topping that is maximally resistant to water even without the need for varnishing. Thus, it can be used on surfaces that are in constant contact with water (bathtubs, showers, shower cubicles, or pools). Betonepox® is slightly porous and realistically imitates a concrete surface, but it is available in hundreds of shades.
