Brno – Brno is looking for a company to build the northern part of the boulevard as the main connection between the city center and the new railway station. At the same time, it will serve as the backbone road of the new district of Trnitá. The documentation for the public contract for construction work costing approximately 160 million crowns was approved by the council today. Construction of the first part of the new street could begin at the end of this year and is expected to last 16 months, said Mayor Markéta Vaňková in a press release.

"The subject of the public contract related to the reconstruction of the Brno railway junction is the construction of the northern part of the new street, which will connect the historic center with the new modern train station. The boulevard will also be the main and vibrant street of the new Trnitá district, and there will be space here for pedestrians, public transport, cars, and cyclists. The street will be lined with tree avenues, and services on the ground floor of the local buildings will connect to it," Vaňková said.

There will be two traffic lanes with two lanes for cars on the road, with bidirectional bike paths and wide sidewalks on both sides. "In the center of the boulevard, a green strip with the character of an urban meadow will be established until the tram tracks are built. In connection with the construction, it will also be necessary to prepare the land, including the removal and disposal of illegal municipal waste dumps, the removal of paved areas, and ensuring access to the construction site," added Deputy Mayor René Černý.

Tree rows and perennial flower beds will be created between the bike paths and sidewalks. The contract also includes subsequent five-year care for the greenery. It is also essential to build networks for technical infrastructure, such as hot water pipes, sewage, water supply, public lighting, and more. The underground collector, which currently has an emergency exit located in the future road, will also be modified. The exit will be moved to the central green strip.

The project has all the necessary building permits. The estimated costs amount to 160 million crowns, and the final amount will be known after the completion of the tender process. Another part will follow the construction of the northern part of the boulevard. Project documentation is currently being developed for the Boulevard – South project.

The new Trnitá district will be developed in stages in the southern part of the center. In the future, it is expected to provide homes, jobs, and entertainment for up to 15,000 people. A new train station will also be located there, with construction planned for the years 2028 to 2035.
