Brno – The football stadium for Brno's Zbrojovka may be built by the new club owner Vojtěch Kačena instead of the city. A few days ago, he stated that they are currently selecting a location for the stadium and that project work will begin after acquiring the land. The city's leadership also discussed construction today, meeting with a representative of the football club. Both parties agreed that they would proceed collaboratively in exploring potential locations, the city council informed in a press release. The city originally considered building the stadium on the site of the current velodrome.

The majority owner of the second-league club became the founder of the technology group Second Foundation at the beginning of August. In an interview for the club's website, he also spoke about the new stadium. "We are currently selecting the location, we want to buy the land commercially, and as soon as we have it, we will start designing. We will divide the construction into several phases, but we want to proceed quickly. We do not plan to draw on city or state subsidies. I expect rather support from the city regarding permits and cooperation. Once we are 100 percent sure that we have everything prepared, we will definitely inform the fans about it,” he stated.

Deputy Mayor René Černý described today's meeting with the club's management as constructive and factual. "We agreed that it will be necessary to explore all possible locations where the new football stadium could be built. We will do this in cooperation with Zbrojovka, so that any preferred option meets the needs of Brno, the club, fans, and the city's residents," he said.

City leaders also welcome Zbrojovka's effort to invest in significant sports infrastructure. According to them, involving a private entity could accelerate the construction project. The next step will be mapping suitable locations where the new stadium could be built and examining them from an urban planning and transportation perspective.

The Office of the Architect of the City of Brno had previously examined locations for the construction of the new stadium, after which the city informed in September 2023 that the most advantageous option is the velodrome in the exhibition grounds. However, the sports facility belongs to the TJ Favorit club, whose members have not yet decided on the sale to Brno. Nevertheless, the city plans to build a hall for track cyclists next to the swimming complex at Lužánky. The preparation of the construction, costing approximately 1.5 billion crowns, is currently in the phase of searching for a contractor for the project documentation.
