Ceske Budejovice - The City of Ceske Budejovice is searching for a curator of the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Architecture, located in the House of Art on Premysl Otakar II Square. The city council approved the announcement of a selection procedure today, which will last until August 15, said the mayor Dagmar Skodova Parmova (ODS) to CTK. The current curator Michal Skoda will finish at the end of this year. He disagrees with the city hall's decision to postpone the reconstruction of the building, even though the House of Art was part of the concept of Ceske Budejovice as the European Capital of Culture 2028.

The city should select a new curator in September, so they can start from October 1. "This is an employment relationship under the cultural and sports facilities of the city. They will work parallel to Michal Skoda for another three months, allowing for the preparation of exhibitions for 2026," said Skodova Parmova. Skoda will also be on the selection committee.

According to the mayor, the new curator will be responsible for managing the gallery from preparation and organization of exhibitions, including creating accompanying texts, to securing funding. They should have five years of curatorial practice in the field and three years of experience in managing a cultural institution. "Programs for schools and kindergartens, managed by Sarah Kosova, will continue to operate and will also fall under the newly established organization of Cultural and Sports Facilities of the City," said Skodova Parmova.

The city commissioned a study for the use of all cultural spaces, and the House of Art is also part of it. "We do not yet have a final version of this analysis; I expect that during the period when we will be selecting a new curator, we will have the output as well," said Skodova Parmova. The study is supposed to clarify what spaces for visual arts the city has and which need to be repaired. According to Parmova, the city plans to renovate the House of Art by 2030.

The exhibitions of the Gallery of Contemporary Art and Architecture are visited by over 10,000 people each year, including about 3,000 children, including students from schools that attend educational programs.
