Gallery VI PER Vás invites you to the launch of the Czech campaign HouseEurope!. During the evening, Ludwig Engel will present the initiative, and we will screen the film Power to Renovation.
HouseEurope! is an initiative that brings together institutions, citizens, and community groups in Europe and seeks a way to rationally and positively favor and prioritize renovations and transformations of buildings over their demolitions in today's construction landscape. The goal of the initiative is to prepare effective EU legal regulations that would facilitate the renovation and transformation of existing buildings, supporting their affordability both economically and socially. Many architectural studios, public and private institutions, and thousands of citizens have already joined the initiative.
From February 1, 2025, the HouseEurope! campaign will be underway, aiming to gather one million signatures from citizens across the EU to advocate for legislation that ensures environmental and social sustainability in the construction environment.
Ludwig Engel is a futurologist and spatial researcher. Together with Julian Schubert / Something Fantastic, he leads the Studio for Immediate Spaces at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, teaches at the S+ (DARCH) architecture department at ETH Zurich, and leads the HouseEurope! campaigns.
Power to Renovation: A Question of Values is a documentary film following experts from across Europe, explaining why the demolition of buildings is a waste of homes, workplaces, energy, and history. The film first showcases the dark side of real estate speculation and then looks at renovations and transformations as real alternatives and how we can change our value system through activism and direct democracy.
