Liberec received a European grant of over 205 million CZK for the modernization of the swimming pool

Liberec – Liberec has received over 205 million crowns from a European grant program for a swimming pool, which will be modernized for more than 800 million crowns excluding tax from autumn 2024. It is expected to be operational from next autumn. The subsidy from the State Environmental Fund program is intended for energy savings. City spokesperson Tomáš Tesař informed about the grant acquisition in a press release.

"The support will lead to the insulation of existing structural elements and the replacement of windows and doors at the boundary of the heated area of the building, replacement of existing fixtures with LED technology, the introduction of an air conditioning system with recovery, and partial replacement of the heating and hot water source,” added Tesař.

For the modernization of the swimming stadium, which was visited by around half a million people annually before its closure, Liberec obtained two other grants. From the National Sports Agency, it received 139 million crowns and 50 million crowns from the Liberec Region. Together, they should cover almost half of the costs. "Every grant support is a great help for the reconstruction of the swimming pool,” added the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Development and Grants Šárka Prachařová (for ANO).

The main reason for the renovation of the swimming stadium is the replacement of old technological equipment, repair of the roof, glazing of the building, and the leaking basin of the main pool. The modernization also includes the replacement of the red waterslide with a new one and the restoration of the mosaic inside.

For the covered swimming complex at Tržní náměstí in Liberec, this is the first extensive repair since its opening in 1984. Only the skeleton of the building will remain, everything else will be new. The original architectural style, designed by Pavel Švancer, will be preserved. This also applies to the color scheme, where red and white, the traditional colors of Liberec, will continue to prevail. Construction work is expected to be completed by June 9 next year, and the facility, which will have three pools, saunas, a fitness center, and a pizzeria, is expected to open three months later.
