Liberec – Liberec will temporarily lose the art piece Kapka due to a two-year reconstruction of the city swimming stadium. Although the city hall originally wanted to relocate it and display it in the city center, it will ultimately remain stored in the technical services' depot during the renovations. This was stated in a response to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Adam Lenert (ANO).

The iconic Kapka, created by artists Jan Lukáš and Oldřich Plíva in 1983, has been at the swimming stadium since its construction. The piece consists of a drop made of stainless steel, measuring 70 by 170 centimeters, which metaphorically disturbs the surface created around it in a six-meter circle made of Liberec granite.

"Kapka, to have its meaning, the space around it is also important, where the pavement forms two waves. So that is the entirety, and we would have to disassemble this entirety now and place it somewhere. It would not be a simple installation. Thus, we decided, after consulting with the City Architecture Office, that it would be appropriate to store Kapka, renovate it, and return it once the pool is finished," Lenert stated.

The Liberec swimming complex in Tržní náměstí was built according to the design of architect Pavel Švancara between 1977 and 1984. The complex, which includes three pools, saunas, a gym, and a pizzeria, is awaiting a comprehensive reconstruction costing over 900 million crowns. The city will ceremoniously commence the construction on Thursday, with the contract awarded to the company Metrostav DIZ.
