The Foundation of Czech Architecture has long been one of the key institutions shaping architectural culture in the Czech Republic. Its natural background is a historic building on Starobrněnská Street in Brno, which has been an important meeting place for architects, creatives, and the public since the 1990s. The Czech Chamber of Architects is located in the building, and until now, the Gallery of Architecture Brno operated on the first floor – an institution that has brought significant figures from the world architectural scene to Brno for decades. After several years of reconstruction, the Foundation of Czech Architecture is opening the Architecture HUB and simultaneously relocating the Gallery of Architecture to the ground floor of the building. For the first time, the entire ground floor of Starobrněnská 16/18 is fully opening to the public. The newly accessible space will also include the Punkt café, the fourth project of the café family Klára and Martin Dutkiewič, which will naturally complement the cultural and community character of the building. “The opening of the Architecture HUB and the relocation of the Gallery of Architecture to the ground floor is a significant step. A place is being created on one of the most important pedestrian arteries in the center of Brno that prioritizes culture, education, and sharing over commercial functions. This is absolutely unique in the Czech context,” says the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation of Czech Architecture, architect Ludvik Grym. The Architecture HUB is being established as a new creative center for architecture and related fields. Under the auspices of the Foundation of Czech Architecture, a vibrant platform is being created in the historic building, connecting architectural studios, cultural institutions, a media library, cafés, and networking spaces. The HUB offers resources for architects, urban planners, landscape architects, designers, developers, and students, creating conditions for interdisciplinary collaboration, education, and the emergence of new projects. The Gallery of Architecture will launch its program with the opening of the exhibition of the Czech Architecture Award 2025, showcasing the best of contemporary Czech architecture. The winning project House for Julia will be presented by one of its co-authors, architect Karel Kubza from ČTYŘSTĚN architects. It is worth mentioning that this implementation also received the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Miloš Vystrčil's Award and the Public's Choice Award. In the lightbox and exhibition panels, visitors will learn about the other five finalists selected by a five-member international jury, as well as projects awarded by the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, and other partner awards. “I am very pleased that the exhibition of the Czech Architecture Award will be one of the first to appear at the Gallery of Architecture Brno. I believe that this will support one of the goals of the competition: to present successful results of architectural practice to both professionals and the wider public,” says Jan Kasl, Chairman of the Czech Chamber of Architects. Starobrněnská Street has become one of the most prominent cultural and social axes of the center of Brno in recent years. In the immediate vicinity of the Architecture HUB are the House of Lords from Kunštát – the House of Arts of the City of Brno, the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, the Moravian Gallery, and the Husa na provázku Theatre. The Architecture HUB thus naturally enters a strong cultural context and aspires to become its active hub – a place for meetings, exchange of ideas, exhibitions, lectures, and lively professional dialogue.
The event is held as part of the Archi Skill Lab program with financial support from "For Creative Brno." The partner of the Gallery of Architecture is Archtiles.cz.
