Prostějov – The Prostějov City Hall is investing approximately 1.5 million korunas in the next phase of renovations for the Metro 70 cinema, where it will replace the seats and carpet. Part of the costs could be covered by a grant from the State Cinematography Fund. In previous years, modernizing the technical equipment of the Prostějov cinema has cost several million korunas. This was reported by the mayor's deputy Milada Sokolová (ODS).

Craftsmen could start replacing the seats and carpets in the cinema hall in the last quarter of this year, or possibly in the first quarter of next year. "The new seats will be sturdy and more comfortable. The renovations will also include a change in elevation (stepped increase of the floor), which will allow for wider aisles and more comfortable movement of the audience. The projected costs amount to up to 1.5 million korunas," Sokolová stated. The cinema management intends to apply for a grant from the State Cinematography Fund, which plans to announce a call focused on cinema modernization.

In the cinema's foyer, the city will install special films on part of the windows to help improve thermal comfort inside. "This year, existing display boards in front of the cinema will be replaced with two new digital outdoor totems, which will enhance information about the program and cultural events. At the same time, the project documentation for an outdoor stage is being prepared. If the project proves feasible, its implementation could begin in 2027," noted Mayor František Jura (ANO).

The Metro 70 cinema was modernized in 2020 at a cost of several million korunas. The modernization included the reconstruction of indoor spaces and the digitization of projection technology. The cinema has a new screen and a laser projector. The modernization also included the technical preparation for the installation of Dolby Atmos sound equipment, which replaced the older Dolby Surround 7.1 system. Nearly five million korunas was then invested by the cinema, with the help of grants, into modernizing audio technology, which improved sound during film screenings.

Metro 70 is the last classic cinema in Prostějov. The Oko and Jas cinemas ceased operations in the 1990s due to declining attendance. The Metro 70 cinema building was constructed between 1965 and 1969 according to a design by Brno architect Zdeněk Michal, and it is a variation of his earlier design for the Hvězda cinema in Uherské Hradiště. The Prostějov cinema hall accommodates nearly 370 viewers.
