Prague - The completed Dvorecký Bridge between Prague 4 and Prague 5 will begin regular public transport operations on Saturday, April 18. A grand opening with a program for the public will take place the day before in the afternoon. This was announced to journalists today by the Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport, Jaromír Beránek (Pirates). The construction of the bridge started in 2022, and due to unexpected circumstances, it has significantly extended and increased in cost.
Regular tram service will include two new lines, 20 and 21. "At the Dvorecký Bridge, they will intersect and provide a comfortable connection for Modřany with the city center at Anděl and in the other direction from Slivenec towards Palackého náměstí," the deputy stated.
The completed bridge between Podolí and Zlíchov is intended for public transport, pedestrians, and cyclists. Emergency rescue services will also be able to cross it, but individual car traffic will not be allowed. The official naming of the bridge will be approved by the city council; in an online poll, the majority of Prague residents supported the name Dvorecký Bridge over the alternative name of the Anežka Česká Bridge.
Due to unexpected complications related, according to previous information, mainly to geological conditions at the bottom of the Vltava River, the total costs for the bridge, including design, increased from 1.57 billion crowns at the start of construction to 1.97 billion. The construction has also been extended; it was originally supposed to be completed last year.
