Most - The reconstruction of the cultural house Repre in Most is a major challenge for builders. They have already had to deal with the presence of asbestos, poor statics, a different reality from the preserved plans, and a bricked-up glove. All surprises necessitate project adjustments during construction, which is reflected in the extension of the completion deadline. Vladimir Rýdl, the construction manager from the contracting company OHLA ŽS, told journalists during today’s tour.
The costs of the extensive reconstruction, during which only the bare walls of the 1970s building remain, are continuously rising. By the end of the year, the reconstruction is expected to be largely completed at a cost of around one billion crowns. The original completion deadline was September 2026. The deadline has been extended to May 2027, and according to Rýdl, further delays are not excluded. Mayor Marek Hrvol (ProMOST) has previously stated that the first ball should take place in the cultural house in January or February 2028.
The building was constructed by prisoners, and the workmanship was described by experts as catastrophic. The construction was carried out quickly, but unprofessionally, with imprecise concrete structures; a bricked-up glove was also discovered. During the demolition, craftsmen found asbestos in the structure and encountered a base layer from infill. "The issue arose with the statics. During the work, we had to solve a number of changes compared to the original project. It's one big challenge," stated Rýdl. The work is interrelated, and new issues continually arise that builders must address. The interior is about 60 percent complete, and the exterior is about 30 percent complete. The contractor is responsible for all utilities, plastering, façade, and flooring. The investor, which is the city, will furnish the furniture and all equipment.
The planetarium is 80 percent complete. The builders replaced its surface, and at the architects' request, it acquired an artificial patina similar to what it had before the reconstruction. They will now finish work on the roof around the planetarium, which will be accessible only by stairs. The remaining floors will be connected by a glass elevator. The entrance hall is taking shape, which will allow passage from Budovatelů Street to the tax office. Craftsmen will still need to deal with the arched wall. "We will try to do it in a way that pleases everyone," Rýdl noted. Predominantly foreign workers are also working outside, where water features are planned, which were previously present before Repre.
The largest area in the building will be occupied by a library with an archive. A new educational exhibition will be created in the building. The capacity of the community hall will be 800 seats and approximately 200 standing places. A restaurant will be located on the ground floor and a café on the upper floor.
