Blansko – A new indoor swimming pool opened today in Blansko. Swimmers will benefit from a 25-meter long swimming pool, there is also a children’s paddling pool, a pool for infants, and a steam sauna. The indoor pool, costing 321 million crowns, is currently operating in a trial phase. It will welcome its first swimmers on Sunday, August 2, the city announced in a press release.
The indoor pool was built on the site of the former city baths. Due to the emergency condition of the roof structures and the unsatisfactory state of the pool basin, it had to be closed in 2021, and in 2024, the city demolished it. The public, members of the swimming club, and students from Blansko and the surrounding area thus lost the opportunity for year-round swimming.
"The complicated commute is now eliminated. The new indoor pool has once again expanded the range of sports facilities that people can find in Blansko at the Sports Island of Ludvík Daněk, providing opportunities for year-round recreational swimming, organized school instruction, and hosting swimming competitions. I perceive it as an investment in health and an enhancement of daily life in the city," said Mayor Jiří Crha (ODS).
The six-lane, 25-meter long pool with a depth of 1.2 to 1.8 meters meets the parameters for hosting official swimming competitions. It is complemented by a teaching and relaxation pool, a children's paddling pool, and a five-meter pool for infants. The complex includes a steam sauna, changing rooms, and locker rooms. The grandstand on the first floor offers seats for 146 spectators. The barrier-free facility, covering 2000 square meters, is located at the Sports Island of Ludvík Daněk by the Svitava River, where there are also other sports facilities.
The building is energy-efficient. It uses renewable sources, with heating provided by heat pumps or a gas boiler. "It features advanced technology for recycling pool water and high-quality air conditioning. The indoor pool complex includes a new retention and accumulation tank that retains rainwater in the area. The tank also serves as a reservoir for utility water that can be used in the new indoor pool complex, for example, for irrigation," said construction manager Martin Mlčoch.
The pool will be open on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on weekends and holidays from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It will be operated by the Technical Services of Blansko. For the construction of the pool, Blansko received a grant from the National Sports Agency exceeding 92 million crowns, and the South Moravian Region provided a grant of ten million crowns. The remainder is covered by the city.
