Brno - The construction of St. Ludmila's chapel in Brno's Nový Lískovec is waiting for a building permit. After several years, the city district could finally see a sacred building that has been missing there. The construction is expected to cost about 15 million crowns, part of which the town hall wants to raise through a public collection, said the district mayor Jana Drápalová (Greens) today to ČTK.
The idea to build a chapel in Nový Lískovec was conceived as early as 2018. Since then, the town hall has selected an architectural design, prepared the project, launched a public collection, and had the foundation stone blessed. "We have fine-tuned some details in the project and we are now waiting for the building permit," said Drápalová.
The chapel, with a triangular floor plan, will be located in the southern part of Kamenný vrch, alongside the housing area on Travní Street. The town hall intends to coordinate the chapel's construction with the future cooperative housing projects that are set to arise in Kamenný vrch in the coming years.
"We are a co-investor, and thus we are involved in the entire preparation of the tender for the contractor. One of the conditions is that they allow us to pass through the construction site to the chapel. Once the contractor for the apartments in Kamenný vrch is chosen, we will coordinate the schedule with them," the mayor stated.
The construction of the chapel, including the surrounding modifications, is estimated to cost about 15 million crowns. The funds will come from the district's budget, but people can also contribute to the collection. "At this stage, the collection has been rather local and not heavily promoted, but once we have the building permit, we want to launch it on a larger scale," she added.
