In the former teacher's house in Ostrava-Kunčičky, a kindergarten and a school club will be established

Ostrava – In the municipal district of Slezská Ostrava, the reconstruction of the former teacher's house on Škrobálkova Street in Kunčičky has started, costing nearly 50 million crowns. It will house a kindergarten, a school after-school club, and spaces for various activities. The reconstruction should be completed in a year. This was announced to journalists today by the mayor of Slezská Ostrava, Richard Vereš (ANO), deputy mayor Roman Goryczka (Ostravak), and the manager of Substav Invest, Luděk Šubert.

"There will be two departments of the kindergarten. There will also be two departments of the after-school club, as the building is connected to the primary school. In the attic, there will be six club rooms, which will serve, among other things, for leisure activities for children from the primary school," said Vereš.

The district is also planning to renovate the garden behind the kindergarten, which adjoins the Silesian mill stream. "It is a very nice plot where play equipment and a relaxation zone can be created for the kindergarten, which can also be used by the primary school and the after-school club. At the same time, parking spaces will be built, and the surrounding area of the building will be modified," said the mayor.

The building was constructed nearly 100 years ago as housing for teachers of the local school, connected to it by a passageway. It was later converted into apartments. In recent years, however, it has deteriorated, and tenants have moved out.

"There will be a complete renewal of the roof structure, which we would like to complete by the end of this year. During the winter, we should start interior work, which involves a complete reconstruction of all rooms on all floors, and if the weather is favorable, we would like to complete the repair of the waterproofing of the basement this year. Next year, we will follow up with a complete renovation of the facade," described the progress of the work Šubert.

Inside, all floor layers will be replaced, and the walls will be stripped down to the brick. "There will be completely new ceilings, plastering, staircases, and there are minor changes to the layout, where some partitions will be demolished and new partitions will be created," said Šubert.

Goryczka stated that Slezská Ostrava is expanding, and there are few places in kindergartens and primary schools in the district. However, the whole of Ostrava has an excess of places in kindergartens, so according to him, the district will not reach any subsidies for the reconstruction of kindergartens.

"We are carrying out the construction from our own sources, which we obtained from the property tax payment from Liberty. The insolvency administrator sent us the payment for 2024 in June, which is why we immediately announced a public tender," said Vereš. He added that the capacities of kindergartens in Ostrava are currently sufficient; however, the district wants to have the most modern buildings that correspond to the current times.

The children from the nearby kindergarten on Nástupní Street, which currently has one classroom, will relocate to the reconstructed building on Škrobálkova Street. The district plans to sell this building because it is in a less suitable location near the railway track and is ineffective for kindergarten operations.
