How to breathe new life into a historical façade – while preserving its original character? Architects from the Burian-Křivinka studio attempted to find the answer – and modern façade materials from Sto played a key role in this story. (Photo: Tomáš Slavík)

The multipurpose building on Opuštěná Street in Brno has served as a residence and headquarters for transportation companies for nearly 100 years. Thanks to a renovation by the architectural firm Burian-Křivinka, it has gained modern amenities while retaining the historic appearance of the main southern part. The restoration of the façade required nearly a complete reconstruction of the stucco decoration, which was in poor condition. The architects, along with the investor and Sto, decided to return the façade to its original appearance using StoDeco decorative profiles that faithfully replicate the original elements based on period photographs. The result is a harmonious blend of historical aesthetics with modern construction technologies. Ecological approach and modern technology in façade restoration

The façade reconstruction required not only the restoration of original stucco details but also a modern approach to ensure long-term durability. By using StoDeco decorative elements, it was possible to faithfully replicate historical shapes, while modern CNC processing technology ensured high precision and quality. These elements are made from the ecological material Verolith®, a volcanic raw material that provides the necessary strength and durability. This innovative approach enabled the preservation of the authentic appearance of the façade while meeting the demands for its contemporary functionality and resistance to external weather influences. StoDeco offers solutions for both historical and modern façades

It doesn't matter whether you are renovating a historical façade or designing a modern building with a unique design – three-dimensional StoDeco elements bring a new dimension to architecture. They are available as full-area façade panels, cornices, or other plastic shapes that perfectly enliven the appearance of your projects. You can choose from various pre-prepared elements or have ones made that precisely match your designs. The created three-dimensional elements or panels can then be directly glued to a contact or ventilated façade according to a pre-prepared plan.
