House Gate

House Gate
Architect: Pavel Lazarov
Address: Branka, Komín, Brno, Czech Republic
Completion:2011
Area:169 m2

The existing building made way for the original house, which was simpler to tear down than to attempt to repair. Essentially, it was built from scratch (albeit limited, as everything around remained standing). However, the owners turned this apparent disadvantage into an advantage in collaboration with the architects. What catches your eye in the house defies thoughtful design. The authors demonstrated a sense of detail in every centimeter. You can also feel the harmony here thanks to the application of Feng Shui principles – rounded corners, selection of materials and colors, arrangement of the house, and unifying elements of the five elements.

On the ground floor, you will find a children's room, a bedroom with a dressing room, a bathroom with a toilet, a separate WC, a utility room, and an outdoor atrium. The heart of the house, the living room with a dining area and kitchen, is located one floor up. Above the living room, separated only visually, there is a gallery with a study.

The open space above the social area makes the house perhaps one of the airiest yet coziest places you have ever visited. Generously designed windows in the front play a significant role here, of course. You can spend time indoors and at the same time in the garden, remain in the city while being in nature. You can. Here you can.

Particular mention deserves the frameless glass surfaces and door frames extending to the ceiling. They are among the series of elements that make the house unique. They are not here by chance. They have a purpose, as does everything here. The glazing allows sunlight to stream into the lower floor. The door frames emphasize the freedom and airiness, which is the domain of the entire house.

If you were to characterize this house in one word, it would most likely be optimism. That is what captures it best. Whether it’s the warm-colored plaster, the natural tones on the floor, or the kitchen, equally playful and unmistakable. In a place like this, there is simply room for everything but gloom.

The sloping terrain that extends behind the house has created conditions for another unique feature of the house – a multi-level garden. Do you wish to grow herbs, bask in the sun, or roast sausages with friends? Despite its limited dimensions, the garden can offer you everything you expect from it.
