House in Hloubětín

The existing building was inadequate in terms of layout and aesthetics for a young family. In the design, we aimed to achieve an open, well-lit space connected to a small but cozy garden, compared to the original solution. We spatially incorporated the unused garage into the living area, creating one large visually connected space. On the facade facing the garden, we created two openings, connecting the living room with the winter garden, which was formed by a glazed extension.
On the other side of the building facing the street, we placed an addition with a staircase to the first floor, where the bedroom and a large children's room are located, which can be divided into two rooms in the future. On the street side, there is a shared bathroom.
We greatly simplified the exterior concept with decorative elements and created a simple cubic mass with the staircase addition on one side and the glazed winter garden on the other. The material solution is based on individual masses. Light plaster is used on the main block, and the extensions are designed in a combination of glass and wood.
The structural solution was based on the existing building. The gas-silicate blocks were severely cracked with vertical cracks, which was only discovered during construction. For this reason, large openings toward the garden were slightly narrowed and supported by a load-bearing frame structure. In the attic, the lowest parts of the roof structure were raised to ensure sufficient ceiling height in all rooms. The gable roof consequently gained a minimal slope and was hidden behind a parapet. The entire building was newly insulated.
