The existing building of the kindergarten was fully utilized, and the spaces did not provide any further reserves for expansion. The facility was built in the 1970s in the classic scheme of this type of establishment. This typological type was commonly constructed in the 1970s throughout the Czech Republic. The building has served its purpose until now, but due to the construction-technical methods at the time of its realization, there were very clear signs of degradation of the building parts, and it was necessary to proceed with a comprehensive remediation and reconstruction of the building. The object is two stories high with a technical passable basement.
The new extension of a new pavilion is located in the northwestern part of the existing garden. The existing garden is then completely redesigned and equipped with new children’s furniture.
At the beginning of the collaboration, the investor first commissioned a study from the architect for the expansion of the operations of the existing kindergarten into the space of the existing flat roof - a new 3rd floor would be built. This study was rejected due to the impending validity of Decree No. 24/2008 Coll. Based on further consultations, a new solution was found to build a new two-story unbasement pavilion in the northwestern part of the enclosed area of the kindergarten. The construction program also stipulated that a complete repair of the existing building would take place alongside minor construction modifications. During further negotiations, the need for adjustments to the existing building as part of addressing accessibility was highlighted.
The building is located in the central part of Frenštát, on the road leading from the center to the area of higher civic amenities. The terrain rises to the southeast perpendicular to the existing building. The new extension makes use of the steep terrain wave, which defines the plot into two levels at the entrance to the building. There was also a reconstruction of the access road and a complete redesign of the garden and playgrounds.
