Presentation of the book "Little Berlin in Greater Prague: Prague's Interwar Architecture by German-Speaking Architects" and subsequent discussion. What do we think of when we talk about German architecture and the influence of the German cultural environment? Lenka Kerdová posed this question over a substantial collection of buildings designed by German-speaking architects in Prague between the two World Wars. She did not perceive it as a uniform block; instead, she sought to find differences among the works of German-speaking architects in Prague that stemmed from their varying origins, training, ambitions, and the different demands of their clientele. How did German architecture in interwar Prague differ from the buildings of the Czech majority? What caused it to appear more conservative than Czech functionalism? What is its place in the context of the architectural output of German and Central European cities? In seeking answers to these questions, Lenka Kerdová managed to write an extraordinarily insightful book, the first of its kind, which reveals previously unknown facts and connections. Lenka Kerdová is an artist, art theorist, and curator. In her independent work, she most often moves between the media of painting, film, and photography.
