In international competition among more than six hundred registered projects, two domestic realizations succeeded in the seven national rounds of the BigMat '19 competition. The Czech Republic will be represented in the finals by the Nová Ruda kindergarten in Vratislavice nad Nisou by Petr Stolin and Alena Mičeková, and BMX starting ramp in Prague's Bohnice by Ondřej Tuček. In addition to both projects sharing a translucent plastic shell, they also serve the youngest generation of users.
From the current fourteen awarded works, the jury will select seven holders of the national BigMat '19 awards. The jury will consist of recognized professionals from the participating countries. The president of the award will be Jesús Aparicio, as in previous years. The secretary of the award will be Jesús Donaire. The rest of the jury will be made up of jury members representing individual countries: Stéphane Beel for Belgium, Petr Pelčák for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Philippe Prost for France, Paolo Zermani for Italy, and Fuensanta Nieto for Portugal and Spain. The final results and the ceremonial award presentation will be announced on November 22, 2019 at the Palais de la Bourse in the French city of Bordeaux on the occasion of the annual symposium. The International Architecture Award was established in Spain in 2007 and expanded to the international field after three national editions. The first international edition in 2013 awarded Belgian architect Xaveer De Geyter. The winner of the second edition in 2015 was Spanish architect Alberto Campo Baeza. The winner of the third edition in 2017 was the French architectural studio Lacaton & Vassal.
