Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové Region will announce a new competition for the reconstruction of a monumentally protected villa located in the area of the Gymnasium J. K. Tyla in Hradec Králové. Two companies applied for the first competition, one of which significantly exceeded the price, while the other, on the contrary, withdrew from the contract due to a lower price. This was announced by the representatives of the regional office to journalists today. The estimated price of the contract is 10 million Czech crowns excluding VAT.
"The Investment Department will conduct a possible review of the contract. On the other hand, the fact that one of the companies succeeded with the proposed price but withdrew from fulfilling the contract for capacity reasons suggests that the contract is constructed correctly. We intend to announce (the competition) again in the near future,” said the governor of Hradec Králové Region, Jiří Štěpán (ČSSD).
The building with one underground and two above-ground floors was built in the 1920s according to the design of architect Josef Gočár. The villa is a cultural historic monument and is located on the grounds of the school that Gočár designed. The gymnasium, along with the Museum of Eastern Bohemia and the Elbe power plant Hučák, is among the most significant buildings from the early modern architecture in the region.
The goal is to preserve the original character and appearance of the building, including the original material and color scheme. The roof has a tent shape, and the roofing consists of so-called French tiles, with ridge tiles at the peaks. "There will be a change in the outer masonry in the part of the pedestal, where an unsuitable cladding will be replaced with another. All facade fillings will be executed as replicas of the original fillings,” said Dan Lechmann from the governor's office to ČTK.
Repairs will also concern the entrance hall, ceilings above the second above-ground floor, sewage system, distributions, and the replacement of floor structures, roofing, and sheet metal work including moisture insulation. The builders will also replace the fillings of doors and windows.
The gymnasium building was recently reconstructed at a significant cost. The repairs lasted from June 2012 and amounted to 99.5 million Czech crowns including VAT, with classes resuming there in the spring of 2014. Approximately two-thirds of the repair costs were covered by grants from European Union funds.
