Hradec Králové – The Hradec Králové Region will attempt for the second time to select a company that will carry out the reconstruction of the villa located in the area of Gymnázium J. K. Tyla in Hradec Králové. The estimated maximum allowable price of the contract is 11 million crowns excluding VAT. The announcement of the competition was approved by the regional council today, representatives of the regional authority informed ČTK.
Two companies applied for the first competition, one of which significantly exceeded the price, while the other, with a lower price, withdrew from the contract due to capacity reasons. "The reconstruction could start in July of this year and will last approximately a year," said the spokesperson for the region, Sylvie Velčovská.
The building, consisting of one underground and two above-ground floors, was constructed in the 1920s according to the design of architect Josef Gočár. The villa is a cultural historical monument and is located in the area of the school that Gočár designed.
"We are announcing the contract for construction work for the second time; we had to revise the contract and increased the estimated value of the project from 10 million crowns to the highest allowable 11 million crowns excluding VAT. I believe that more suppliers will participate in the procurement process. We should know the deadline for submissions from interested parties within a week," said the councilor for investments, Václav Řehoř (ODS).
The goal of the reconstruction is to preserve the original character and appearance of the building, including the original material and color scheme. Repairs will also concern the interior of the building, such as the entrance hall, ceilings above the second above-ground floor, sewage systems, and distributions, as well as the replacement of floor constructions. Builders will also replace the door and window fillings.
The main building of the gymnasium was recently expensively refurbished, with the repairs lasting from June 2012 and costing 99.5 million crowns including VAT. Teaching resumed in spring 2014 after the repairs. About two-thirds of the repair costs were covered by grants from European Union funds.
The gymnasium, along with the East Bohemian Museum and the Elbe power station Hučák, is among the most significant buildings from the early modern architecture in the region.
