Hradec Králové – The reconstruction of the so-called director's villa in the premises of the J. K. Tyl Gymnasium in Hradec Králové has so far cost two million crowns. The repair began in the summer of 2020 and should be completed in the summer of this year. The total costs for the restoration of this listed building are 12 million crowns. This was stated to ČTK by the spokesperson of the Hradec Králové Region, Dan Lechmann. The villa was built in the 1920s according to the design of architect Josef Gočár. The reconstruction is being carried out by the Hradec-based company Matex HK.
"Work on the plaster cores and the installation of rough health-technical distribution systems is currently underway on the ground floor of the building," Lechmann told ČTK.
The building has one underground and two above-ground floors, is a cultural and historical monument, and is located on the grounds of the school designed by Gočár. The villa features a tent-like roof with French tiles and ridge tiles. "A revision of the ceiling beams is completed, as well as the repair of the beams on the first above-ground floor. The builders have undercut the perimeter walls and insulated the masonry," stated Lechmann.
The aim of the villa's reconstruction is to preserve its original character and appearance, including the original material and color scheme. The repairs also concern the entrance hall, ceilings above the second above-ground floor, sewage systems, distributions, and the builders will replace the floor structures. They will also change the door and window fillings.
The main building of the gymnasium was recently extensively renovated for nearly 100 million crowns, including VAT. Teaching began in the spring of 2014 after the repairs were completed. About two-thirds of the repair costs were covered by grants from European Union funds.
The gymnasium, along with the Eastern Bohemia Museum and the Elbe power plant Hučák, are among the most significant buildings from the early period of modern architecture in the Hradec Králové Region.
