Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary have selected an architectural design for the renovation of Dvořák Gardens. The park near the Sadová Colonnade close to the Thermal hotel is expected to receive a new appearance according to the design, which would provide more options for spending time and relaxation in this part of the spa center. However, the city currently does not have the funds for the implementation of the modifications. Nevertheless, they believe that they could obtain a subsidy in the coming years, said Lubomír Kovář (ANO), Deputy Mayor of Karlovy Vary, to ČTK.
"Above all, we would need financial resources, which we currently do not have. We will wait to see if there will be any subsidy, similar to the current ITI (Integrated Territorial Investments), which include public spaces and municipal greenery. In the future planning period, we would definitely try to secure a subsidy," said Kovář. If the city does not obtain the subsidy, the restoration of the gardens would proceed in phases.
According to the winning design by the architectural office of ofschem architekti s. r. o., Dvořák Gardens would be more open and accessible. The design makes greater use of the double staircase leading to Zahradní Street, modifies the road network, and considers the preservation of the existing mature trees in the greenery. The pond in the center of the park is also to remain. The bank of the Teplá River would be partially accessible, where a similar riverbank could be created as on the opposite side of the river under the Thermal hotel.
According to the architectural design, a similar structure could be created on the site where the Blanenský Pavilion once stood. Although the current zoning plan does not account for this, the city management believes it would be possible to adjust the plan or build the structure in a different regime than that of a permanent building.
Dvořák Gardens represent a symbolic entrance to the spa zone. During the International Film Festival, visitors like to lounge on the grass under the mature trees and enjoy nature in the heart of the city. The place itself has undergone several transformations over the decades. A significant element in the park's space in the past was the Blanenský Pavilion, which was also the center of social life. After its demise, the park took on a promenade character, but the lack of social space is evident, states the Office of Architecture of Karlovy Vary.
