The Liberec Region has announced an architectural competition for the new building of the Secondary Medical School with an expansion of the Secondary Vocational School in Liberec. This is the very first architectural competition for a secondary school building since 1990.
The site chosen for the construction of the new building is the area of the Secondary Vocational School in the Liberec district of Rochlice, which has sufficient development areas. Thanks to the synergy of both educational institutions, a full-fledged secondary school campus will be created.
The competition is designed as an open two-phase event. In the first phase, the assessment will primarily focus on the concept of architectural-urban design solutions, so no prospective representations are required as part of the submission; instead, a simple physical model is requested, following the examples of Austrian and Swiss competitions.
The submitted proposals will subsequently be evaluated by a jury composed of representatives of the region and independent experts. The chairman of the jury is architect Tomáš Koumar, a partner at the Ehl & Koumar Architects studio. Other independent jury members include professors Zdeněk Jiran and Petr Pelčák, architects Eva Gabaš Rosenová and Petra Kunarová, and architect Ondřej Králík.
