The town of Vimperk is announcing a competition for a proposal for a new kindergarten, which is planned to be built in the near future close to the sports complex by the ice rink. The aim of the competition is to select the most suitable architectural design and the team of architects who will subsequently process and negotiate the entire project.
The town of Vimperk currently operates two kindergartens. One utilizes the historic building of Králík's villa, located on 1. máje street, with a capacity of 80 children. The other, with a capacity of 190 children, occupies two buildings on Klostermann and Mírová streets. The new kindergarten is expected to expand these capacities and meet the current and future demands for preschool education for children.
"In recent years, it has become clear that the capacity of kindergartens is insufficient. The political representation of the town has been faced with the question of how to resolve this problem. Educational facilities are buildings with specific space and facility requirements. The historic school buildings in Vimperk were resolved through an architectural competition as early as the 19th century and have served their purpose ever since. This is a demonstration that a good, well-thought-out design serves its purpose for decades," says Mayor Jaroslava Martanová, adding: "Today's requirements and forms of preschool education have shifted significantly from what they were thirty years ago. The decision to construct a new kindergarten was found to be the best option."
The competition is announced as open, with the deadline for submitting proposals set for January 22. The submitted proposals will then be evaluated by a jury composed of representatives from the town and independent experts. Among them are Mayor Jaroslava Martanová, Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Kuncl, directors of the current Vimperk kindergartens Kateřina Vladyková and Ladislava Slavíková, as well as architects Jakub Našinec, Milada Hejdová, Ondřej Blaha, and Eva Zemenová.
City architect René Dlesk believes that a number of quality proposals will come in: "This is the very first architectural competition for a kindergarten in the South Bohemian Region since 1989. We invite all colleagues to participate and look forward to proposals that will enable both children and parents to be in daily contact with the best architecture. This experience will last a lifetime, which is why the competition is of great importance."
The anticipated investment amount is 100 million crowns excluding VAT, and the aim of the competition is to verify these costs so that the town has a clear idea of future financing. A total of 800 thousand crowns is allocated for competition prizes and rewards, and the municipality will apply for a grant provided by the Ministry for Regional Development to support architectural competitions.
