Prague - The International Union of Architects (UIA) does not dispute the course of the competition for the new building of the National Library. Eight Czech architectural firms have sent their objections to the alleged non-compliance with the competition conditions by the winner, but the union, according to information from ČTK, confirmed the position of the international jury that decided on the winner.
The organizer of the competition, the National Library, published the results on March 3, according to which the jury unanimously selected the design by Jan Kaplický's studio Future Systems as the best. Very soon, criticism emerged from architects, both competing and non-competing, that the winner violated the binding condition of placing the book storage above ground.
Some unsuccessful participants in the competition are considering, in the most extreme case, a court solution to the alleged violation of the conditions during the selection of the winning proposal. However, the director of the National Library, Vlastimil Ježek, claims that no Czech entity can decide on doubts regarding the competition, but only the UIA.
