Ostrava - There is interest in the architectural competition for the transformation of Artistic Street near the House of Art in Ostrava. 23 applicants submitted their works, while the city expected around five to ten, said Mayor Tomáš Macura (ANO) to reporters today. The architectural-urban competition for the modifications of the space near the Elektra tram stop takes the form of an open anonymous competition. The mayor reminded that this was the first of a series of architectural competitions announced by the city in recent months.
"In the coming days, the jury will meet and will deal with the individual proposals, and we believe that we will select truly interesting solutions from them," Macura noted. The city leadership expects to present the winning design for the transformation of Artistic Street to the council in April. "Based on the winning design, a public contract would then be announced. We still need to coordinate our steps with the new regional leadership and their plans for the completion of the gallery," Macura stated. He believes that the area could be rebuilt next year.
"When we announced the competition, we considered a certain financial limit. In the end, we canceled it, so there is currently no financial limit for the competitors, and we will see what comes out of the proposals," Macura added.
The jury, composed of experts and representatives of the city and the central city district, will evaluate, for example, the suitability of the concept, spatial and functional arrangement, economic feasibility of the proposal, or the connection of the proposed modified area with the city. "After a long time, the current city leadership has returned to a broader use of architectural competitions, which allow for the search for the best solutions for buildings and public spaces implemented by the city. Competitions for the transformation of the slaughterhouses and Msgre. Šrámek Square are already underway, and preparations are being made for the construction of a concert hall and a residential building on Kostelní Street," Macura said.
The winner of the competition for the reconstruction of the historic slaughterhouses, which the city recently reclaimed into its ownership, will be decided in June. The competition for the transformation of Msgre. Šrámek Square will be announced after its regularity is confirmed by the Czech Chamber of Architects in March.
