Prague – The Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) has announced a public contract for the preparation of a conceptual study on the modifications of public spaces in the Dejvice university campus. The aim is to propose modifications to the area to make it more accessible and comfortable for students and other residents of Prague. The study is expected to be completed by April 2021. IPR stated this today on its website.

"The entire space lacks a clear vision. Its quality and maintenance are complicated by fragmented management. For these reasons, the campus does not offer a sufficiently representative and pleasant place for the local students, employees, and other residents and visitors. Therefore, a comprehensive concept will be created to suggest how the public space of the campus should further develop," said Petr Hlaváček, the first deputy mayor for urban planning (for STAN).

The concept will address the modification of public spaces, transport with an emphasis on pedestrians and cyclists, greenery, and possibilities for organizing events on the campus. According to the assignment, a key element is the green connection from Podbaba through Dejvice to Prague Castle and increasing the accessibility and attractiveness of the place for students and visitors.

"The goal of the concept is not only to establish a target state but to create a set of strategic follow-up steps for the gradual transformation of the Campus into a sustainable and vibrant part of the city," stated Martin Červený, the deputy director of IPR. The maximum value of the public contract is 1.7 million crowns excluding VAT.

The gradual revitalization of the campus area aims to improve the environment for students, employees of the schools in the area, and the public. After revitalization, the campus should also open up more and better connect with its surroundings.

The campus is a joint project of the Czech Technical University, the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University, the Prague 6 district, the National Technical Library, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences, and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. The designer and IPR will collaborate with all participating institutions in the preparation of the study.
