Cultural center MIZA in Moravská Třebová is set to cost half a billion crowns

Moravská Třebová – The leadership of Moravská Třebová in the Svitavy region has prepared documentation for the next stages of the construction of the MIZA Cultural Center. It is to be built on the site of the former Miltra dairy facility, which the city purchased. The costs for the next three stages are estimated at over half a billion crowns. The continuation of the project will be decided by the new council, said Mayor Pavel Charvát (ODS) to ČTK. Demolition of old buildings in the area of the former dairy has begun, where a parking lot and a new water reservoir will be constructed.

The city has completed project documentation for the construction. In the first phase, a cultural center is expected to be built for an estimated 359 million crowns including VAT. The second phase includes a cinema costing 65 million crowns, and the third phase includes a library costing 75 million crowns. Additionally, there will be another 30 million in ancillary costs, including stairs to an observation deck on the chimney. Operating costs, approximately four million crowns per year, would also be significant. The city would like to obtain a grant for the project from the brownfield regeneration program in the new programming period of the European Union. About half of the costs would be covered by a loan.

Moravská Třebová, which this year is operating with a budget of 527 million crowns in expenses, lacks a fully functional hall that meets modern standards. "Cultural life takes place in temporary spaces with technical limitations, which forces residents, schools, and associations to travel elsewhere for many events. The multifunctional MIZA space will change this situation. A modern multipurpose center will be created that can respond to various needs, from large concerts, professional theater performances, and balls to professional conferences, lectures, and community workshops," the city hall stated in a report to the council members regarding the project's readiness. The cultural center will consist of a space in the main production hall with a sawtooth roof.

Thanks to quality acoustics and technical equipment, it would be possible to bring productions to the city for which suitable conditions have not existed until now. The MIZA center is expected to play a crucial role in the lives of children and youth. Schools would gain space for their academies and celebrations, while local associations could operate year-round regardless of the weather. A connection between activities with a modern library and family center would also be created. An exceptional element of the project is to be a residential facility, which will allow artists in Moravská Třebová to create and test new projects.

The area of the former Miltra dairy, covering one hectare on Jirásková Street, was purchased by the city in 2020 for 11 million crowns. It is near the center and adjacent to the park by the city museum.
