Prague - The municipality will pay participants in the architectural competition for the future shape of Štvanice Island a total of 3.6 million crowns. This follows from a document approved by the city's councilors. Prague did not award a first prize in the competition, only a second and two third prizes. For second place, the RKAW studio will receive a total of 600,000 crowns. The proposal, which aimed to preserve the original character of the island, includes several possible future variants for the island, including a footbridge from Rohanský Island. It also explores the option of a significant building with a large hall or the demolition of the current tennis club buildings. Two third place entries came from MOBA studio and from the studio of Josef Chybík. Both will receive 400,000 crowns from the city. All participants in the second round of the architectural competition will receive 300,000 crowns from the municipality. Besides the three awarded entries, five other proposals advanced to the second round. The architectural competition was conducted in two rounds. In the first round, the jury selected eight of the best proposals from 80 participants. All competition projects will be exhibited to the public, accessible until January 31 at Kafka's House in Franz Kafka Square. The monumentally protected stadium on Štvanice from the 1930s was demolished by Prague in May 2011 due to allegedly poor technical condition. The demolition triggered disagreement from a large part of the public. The first buildings appeared on the island as early as the 17th century, when a wooden arena was constructed there.
