Přerov - The town hall of Přerov is preparing a competition for an urban planning solution for the city's internal bypass, known as a "průpich," which is expected to address the dire traffic situation in conjunction with completed highway sections in the future. The new road bypass in the area before the train station will intersect the areas of Komenského, Havlíčkova, Čechova, Kramářova, and Husova streets. Construction is set to begin next year. Architects should propose in the competition how the area around the four-lane road should look. The city has allocated over 400,000 crowns for the competition, representatives of the town hall informed ČTK.

The area around the so-called bypass is surrounded by residential and industrial zones, bordered by the brewery complex and other buildings. "The area in question covers approximately 16 hectares, which is roughly the same as today’s city center. Since the bypass will be a major intervention in the entire urban structure, it is necessary to carefully consider the area. The planned transport construction will provide access to the area from different directions than is currently the case," stated councilor Jan Horký. According to him, architects should set clear rules for future construction in the new area around the train station, thereby giving the place a new face.

The city is currently preparing the conditions for the competition, which will be officially announced in mid-July and will end on November 7. A total of 425,000 crowns has been allocated from the city treasury for prizes and awards for the competitors. According to Horký, the extensive area offers a multitude of solutions. "It is essential to come up with new streets or squares, but there can also be parks, sports facilities, places for housing, and shops - basically almost anything," the councilor added.

The construction of the internal bypass through the city has been planned for over a decade. The city expects it to calm traffic, especially on Komenského and Husova streets. "The bypass will begin with a grade-separated junction at the underpass in Předmostí, then connect to Polní street, which will be expanded to four lanes. It will subsequently lead through the intersection of Polní, Tržní, and Dluhonská streets, then cross the Legií bridge, pass through the former Juta complex, around the bus station - up to the bakery on Generála Štefánika street," said deputy mayor Pavel Košutek (ANO).

The Directorate of Roads and Highways, which is set to begin construction next year, according to town hall spokesperson Lenka Chalupová, has already had financial resources designated for this project for two years, as well as a valid zoning decision and secured acquisition of most of the necessary lands or properties that will be demolished in a few months. The construction will be funded from the state budget through the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, which has allocated 147 million crowns for it.
