Most – Construction of the Queen of Most Sports Hall started today in Most. It will expand the sports offerings in the city and provide 300 seats for spectators. The construction will cost over 180 million crowns. The company Herkul will build the hall. The design of the hall with its atypical roof was created by the Brno architectural studio DKarchitekti. This was reported by the mayor of Most, Marek Hrvol (ProMOST), today to ČTK.
"The construction should take about two years. We are already looking forward to it today because it will be truly very attractive and visible from a great distance," said Hrvol. The company Herkul is already working on other contracts for the city. However, the local government has not been very satisfied with its work. Therefore, city officials met with representatives of the contracting company even before the construction work on the new hall began. "Some constructions did not meet our expectations, which is why we said that this project is very important to us. The chairwoman of the board assured us that the company has secured all capacities to ensure the hall is built without problems," the mayor said.
The director of Sportovní areály Most, Petr Formánek, expects an expansion of sports opportunities in the city. "It will expand with a certified area of 40 by 20 meters. This will also bring us energy savings considering that the current hall is permanently used and is quite energy-intensive," Formánek noted. The current large sports hall accommodates 1,350 spectators. However, there is also interest in smaller events, both sports and cultural, which cannot currently be held to such a large extent due to the constant occupancy of the large hall. Therefore, the director expects an increase in revenue from the planned rental of the new hall.
The architectural studio succeeded with its design in a competition announced by the city. It presented a design for a hall with a roof in the shape of a royal crown. Its appearance references the once-royal city of Most as well as the successes of the women's handball team, explained architect Oldřich Fikejs. "It is a connection of the past with the present," he added. Building the wooden roof will be the most demanding part of the project for the builders. The design also considered ecology, so an underground reservoir for rainwater retention will be created under the hall.
