PRAGUE - The exhibition at the headquarters of the Czech Chamber of Architects on Josefská Street in Malá Strana, Prague, presents the diploma theses of 41 young architects who graduated from architectural schools this year. The exhibition will be accessible from Wednesday until December 20 on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00. During today's vernissage, the organizers of the sixth edition of the Diploma Thesis Exhibition also announced its winners. In the exhibition, which involves all domestic architectural schools and is organized by the Czech Chamber of Architects, the winning design was by Pavla Nasadil from the studio of Emil Přikryl at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. The work is titled Ideal Hlučín. The jury praised the author's ability to "focus on the most important problems in the city's urbanism and to find clear solutions." "The author's modifications are sometimes generous, for example in the design of the new Kostelní náměstí and the castle park, while at other times they are modest, such as in the placement of a new chapel in the main square, but always sensitive," the judges stated. The first prize comes with a reward of 25,000 crowns. The second prize and 15,000 crowns were awarded by the jury to Věra Šatochinová from Ivan Kroupa's studio at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University for her work Recultivation of the North Bohemian Brown Coal Basin - Libouš Mine. The prize of 10,000 crowns for third place goes to Dragan Bekić from Jan Bočan's studio at the same school for the design Housing in the Historical Core of Prague. The jury also awarded an unmonetary special recognition to Jan Horký from Přikryl's studio at the AVU for a design titled House on Republic Square. "The design of the Arena Republic is, especially in today's context of the ongoing construction of a commercial monstrosity on Republic Square, a raised finger, pointing to the inconsistent procedures of the municipal administration, to a wasted opportunity to create an urban concept allowing for healthy development of one of Prague's central areas," the jury praised Horký's design. Several other works were awarded prizes from sponsors or partners of the competition. The competition designs will be published along with the jury's evaluations at www.diplomy.cz. After the exhibition ends, it will travel and will be presented in several locations in Prague, Brno, and Liberec.
