The competition for the construction of additional flood protection measures in Brno could start in September

Brno – The selection procedure for the contractor for the next phase of flood protection measures in Brno could begin in September. The spokesperson for the city hall, Filip Poňuchálek, stated this to CTK. The Trnitá phase includes the transformation of the embankments of the Svratka and Svitava rivers. The more than three-kilometer section runs from the embankment of the Přerov railway line in Komárov along the Svratka to the railway viaduct on Uhelná Street and along the Svitava to the road bridge on Hladíkova Street.

"By the end of August, a contract with the construction manager should be submitted to the city leadership. The tender documentation for the selection of the contractor should then be discussed by the Brno City Council approximately during September," Poňuchálek stated. Upon completion, the city will gain nature-friendly flood protection measures that will protect approximately 180 hectares and about 5,370 residents from a hundred-year flood.

Brno obtained a building permit for the project last year. This phase also includes a "flood park", a place that would normally serve for recreation, while during floods, water could spread there without causing significant damage. It is to be created in place of the unfinished railway polyclinic in Brno’s Štýřice, which workers demolished at the beginning of this year.

The construction will follow up on the measures completed last year in the section from Riviera through Poříčí to the railway viaduct. The project, costing 1.5 billion crowns excluding tax, lasted three and a half years. Its completion was postponed several times.
