Petr Brauner

A look into the collection of architecture at the Museum of Art in Olomouc will introduce one of the most significant personalities of the Olomouc art scene – architect Petr Brauner. His professional career is connected with the Olomouc region, although the significance of his work clearly extends beyond its borders. He has already received partial appreciation in two exhibition projects at the Museum of Art, reflecting the Olomouc cultural scene of the second half of the 20th century – "Announcement of Icarus's Flight." The Olomouc 1960s in the Mirror of Visual Culture (1998) and Greenhouse: Chapters from the History of Olomouc Visual Culture 1969-1989 (2009-2010). The current exhibition aims to highlight that the functional and aesthetic qualities continuously accompany Brauner's work up to the present day. As one of the few architects, he has managed to contribute high-quality projects to the expressions of Czech postmodernism or to reapply the principles of high-tech architecture in commissions after 1989. All this is underpinned by an approach aptly summarized by the motto: "Architecture should not be boring; it should lack neither humor nor poetry."
