For some, a half-year anticipated exhibition, for others, intense work from morning till night. This brings ARTSEMESTR, a showcase of semester and final projects by students of the high school of applied arts in Prague. This time, it will be on display from Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 9, in the spaces of the entire UMPRUM building.
ARTSEMESTR is not just an exhibition, but primarily a testament and evaluation of continuous work during the semester. It presents both the results of long-term themes and short-term assignments. At ARTSEMESTR Summer 2019, a total of 23 accredited workshops and the Visiting Artist Workshop will be featured.
“ARTSEMESRT Summer 2019 is the first one I can observe from the position of rector. I am particularly pleased that we are managing to connect the creations of various studios and deepen their collaboration. This is one of the things that makes our school unique,” says the new rector of UMPRUM, Professor Jindřich Vybíral.
Visitors can again look forward to an endless range of different themes and works. Among the mentioned collaborations, we can name the assignment “Puppet Theater,” where the Furniture and Interior Design Studio combined their strengths with the Illustration and Graphics Studio. The year-long project of the Textile Creation Studio, which connects original craft traditions of processing glass beads with new technologies and textile art, was taken up by the Fashion Design Studio. Its students prepared a collection made from the author-printed fabrics of their classmates. The results of the Glass Studio assignment on the theme “Still Life” were another welcomed subject for the Photography Studio II's creations.
The Graphic Design and Visual Communication Studio focused on processing a primer, the K.O.V. Studio will present a collection of mini architecture cast in bronze, and the Industrial Design Studio will present a new cabin for the Petřín cable car. The architecture studios this time focused on selected locations in various cities – the Architecture Studio I proposed for the city of Jihlava, the Architecture Studio IV dealt with Český Krumlov, and the Architecture Studio II presented an urban concept for the Smíchov approach to the railway bridge. The Department of Free Art left most cases an unlimited space for creativity without assignment restrictions.
One of the rector Jindřich Vybíral's plans is to make UMPRUM more accessible to the public. New to the ARTSEMESTR program are guided tours. For those who would like to walk through the exhibition of final and semester works with commentary, they are prepared as part of the Prague Museum Night program.
