Brno - The functionalist hotel Avion will provide a venue for the Brno Design Days from October 4 to 7. Czech and foreign experts will perform. At the same time, people can see the unique building on an exceptionally narrow plot, which has been closed for approximately eight years and is now undergoing reconstruction. Martina Steinerová informed ČTK about the festival today on behalf of the organizers.
The hotel in Česká Street in the city center began operations in 1928. The building, designed by architect Bohuslav Fuchs, is owned by a private owner. The goal of the reconstruction is to restore hotel operations while preserving the heritage value of the building.
Each year of the Brno Design Days festival has its theme; this year it will be about uncovering secrets. Designers will showcase the mysterious corners of the creative process, unspoken stories, and ideas that never saw the light of day. "Unrealized concepts are often the dearest, as they tend to be too visionary and progressive for the time in which they were created," said the festival's chief curator, Alexandra Georgescu. The aim of the Brno Design Days is to spread and deepen awareness of design and to present its contribution to everyday life and business. At the same time, for the third year, it showcases Brno as an inspiring and creative place not only within the Czech Republic but throughout Europe.
This year's edition, in addition to thematic installations, will also bring lectures, workshops, and even fashion shows. The organizers' plans also include a cinema, an exhibition of student works, and a design café. Participation has been confirmed by, for example, Margherita Carraro from the fashion house Christian Dior and Bertrand Schippan.
