Jørn Utzon, the elder statesman of Danish architecture, would have turned one hundred years old on April 9, 2018. Moravian Ostrava thus joins the ranks of other places around the world that are paying tribute to this extraordinary personality this year. On this day, at 7 PM, a concert by an international trio, whose repertoire is based on creative jazz, will take place at the Parník club. The original and sonically colorful music will be performed by Alesso Bruno – double bass and Martin Hafizi – drums, complemented by Czech pianist Jan Uvira.
The projects of Jørn Utzon, a visionary in architecture and the author of, for example, the world-famous Sydney Opera House, will be presented by three galleries – Exhibition Hall Sokolská 26, Industrial Gallery, and Slezskoostravská Gallery. The exhibition, which is being realized as part of the Archikultura 2018 festival and the Danish Days in Ostrava project, will be the first unveiling of Utzon's relationship with East Asia, one of his main sources of inspiration. The exhibition is authored by Dr. Chiu Chen-Yu, who focuses on intercultural relations in architecture with an emphasis on the works of Scandinavian authors, and the exhibition curators are Tadeáš Goryczka and Jaroslav Němec from the Cabinet of Architecture. On April 10, the opening of this exhibition and the start of the Danish Days in Ostrava will take place at Exhibition Hall Sokolská 26 and Parník club, with special guests expected to attend: exhibition author Dr. Chiu Chen-Yu, who will have a lecture on the same day at 3 PM at the Slezskoostravská Gallery.
