Villa Tugendhat will host an exhibition for the 111th anniversary of Slezákovy závody starting March 20

After 111 years of operation, the traditional brand Slezákovy závody is presenting a unique exhibition of bent metal furniture. The story of the traditional Czech brand began in 1908 in Bystřice pod Hostýnem and continues successfully to this day. The exhibition primarily highlights the developmentally important period of the 1930s and features exceptional models from the post-war decades. The collection is based on modern products of historical manufacturing patterns, through which the timelessness of the original designs is showcased.

The original Slezákovy závody for metal furniture, established in 1908, later Kovona, and since 1992 Kovonax, utilizes both traditional and modern technologies. The company, which is entirely owned by Czech entities, has a manufacturing plant in Bystřice pod Hostýnem in the Zlín region and is a true Czech manufacturer from the initial processing of materials to the final product. The company's specialty is the possibility of combining models from the original production of Slezák with modern technology.

Kovonax is a manufacturer of metal furniture, primarily chairs, swivel sofas, armchairs, dining and conference tables, coat racks, and other furnishings. In Prague, the Slezákovy závody brand's range is presented in the functionalist AXA hotel, Na Poříčí 40.

The exhibition Slezákovy závody: 111 years of metal furniture production in Bystřice pod Hostýnem is accessible from March 20 to May 26, 201 in the technical floor of Villa Tugendhat during opening hours Tue–Sun 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM without prior reservation. Admission is 50 CZK.

About Villa Tugendhat
The villa of spouses Greta and Fritz Tugendhat, built between 1929 and 1930 and designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, is an installed monument of modern architecture. As the only modern architecture monument in the Czech Republic, it is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Between 2010 and 2012, Villa Tugendhat underwent a thorough heritage restoration. The building, along with the adjacent garden, was restored to its form at the time of its completion in 1930. The interiors are furnished with exact replicas of the original furniture. The technical background of the villa (ventilation spaces, boiler room, machinery room for window mechanisms, wool chamber) was restored on the first floor. The technical floor houses spaces with a permanent exhibition presenting the architect, the builders, and the life of the family in the villa until 1938 when the Tugendhats were forced to emigrate abroad due to the threat of World War II. Visitors can also view an exhibition of original furniture from Villa Tugendhat and documentary films about the course of the villa's heritage restoration. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the spaces of the technical floor are also used for temporary exhibitions dedicated to modern and contemporary architecture and design.
