On Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at 5:00 PM, an opening of the exhibition of competition proposals for the urban-architectural competition "Roman Square" in Brno took place in the former Brno prison located between Cejl, Soudní, and Bratislavská streets. During the evening, there were short presentations of the winning proposals. The exhibition will last until November 30, 2010, and will be accessible from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The subject of the competition was the preparation of an urban-architectural proposal for the revitalization of "ROMAN SQUARE" IN BRNO, its spatial and functional arrangement including alterations to public space, along with opinions on connections to broader urban contexts, the integration of existing buildings, or the placement of new constructions. The goal of the competition was to find the most suitable year-round utilization scenario, including the distribution of urban furniture, landscape design, and traffic regulation. The urban-architectural competition "Roman Square" in Brno was announced by the Statutory City of Brno on June 4, 2010. The deadline for submitting competition proposals was set for September 3, 2010; 92 competition proposals were delivered by this date from a total of 346 registered competitors or competition teams. The competition jury, which sat on September 9–10, 2010, consisted of Dr. Ing. arch. Henrieta Moravčíková, JUDr. Jiří Oliva, Ing. arch. Zbyněk Pech, Ing. arch. Ján Stempel, Ing. Jana Drápalová, PhDr. Kateřina Dubská, Ing. arch. Igor Kovačević, and MVDr. Vlastimil Žďárský, and selected 5 proposals that were awarded prizes or awards.
As part of the exhibition, a survey will be held where visitors can express their opinions on the results of the competition. The survey is prepared by the Partnership Foundation and will be available on the city of Brno's website (www.brno.cz), and will also be announced in the November issue of Metropolitanu. Survey forms can be filled out directly at the exhibition or at the Brno Urban Center. At the end of the exhibition, a public discussion will take place.
