Prague - The New Municipal Theatre in Most, which was opened on November 8, 1985, was a modern building for its time, featuring original elements in both its architecture and stage design. However, its history dates back to 1911, when the first theatre building began operating. That building had to give way in the 1980s along with the entire historical core of the city to coal mining.

The competition for the new theatre in Most was won by architect Ivo Klimeš. However, the construction of the boldly conceived building took significantly longer; the builders began work only in September 1979, and it opened as the Theatre of Workers in 1985. It was the last brand new building of its kind in the Czech Republic for nearly 30 years. In 1987, the puppet and alternative stage of the theatre in Most, named The Theatre of Diversity, was opened. In 2005, the Municipal Theatre transformed from a contributory organization into a commercial company.

The Municipal Theatre in Most and the Theatre of Diversity are visited by around 100,000 people annually. Its current director is Filip Nuckolls. The Municipal Theatre has chosen the theme "Family in a Trap" for the 2026 season, with premieres of productions such as Mamma Mia! and The White Disease.
