Prague - Today, an exhibition of projects submitted for this year's Grand Prix of Architects will begin at the Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University. The opening of the exhibition is also held on the occasion of the International Day of Architecture, which is celebrated every year on the first Monday of October. A total of 231 projects entered the competition organized by the Association of Architects, with the jury selecting 55 for the shortlist. The winner will be announced on November 9th.
"This year, the number of submitted projects has returned to the level before the coronavirus pandemic. It surprised and pleased me a lot," said Oleg Haman, chairman of the Association of Architects.
In addition to the Grand Prix of Architects and the Lifetime Achievement Award, prizes will also be awarded in categories such as New Building, Reconstruction, Family House, Architectural Design, Small Architecture and Artistic Work in Architecture, Interior, Urbanism, and Landscape Architecture and Garden Design. This year, the award for sustainable construction will also be presented, in collaboration with the Czech Council for Sustainable Buildings. This was awarded for the first time last year.
Last year, the awards were presented online. The Grand Prix was won by the City Hall of Modřice, designed by Atelier bod architekti.
