Los Angeles - Brad Pitt has received an award for his contribution to the realization of sustainable housing in New Orleans. The Hollywood actor has diligently helped provide homes for some people who were left roofless in this city by the devastating Hurricane Katrina in 2005, reported BBC. Pitt's charitable organization Make It Right has built 13 houses in the area devastated by the hurricane. These houses are constructed sustainably, featuring green roofs that help reduce heating costs and lower temperatures in the hot New Orleans summer. "We wanted these houses to be a permanent home and also be aesthetically pleasing," the actor responded to the award he received this week from the American organization Green Building Council. He also noted that they were built to be safe and withstand weather conditions. Pitt's project continues, with a goal to build an additional 150 such houses by next year.
