The summer pavilion of the Serpentine gallery by Snøhetta has experienced a slight delay, and thus a temporary shelter was hastily built for yesterday's celebration by Zaha Hadid. The design consists of three identical funnel-like expanding structures covered with fabric. The architect found inspiration in the organic shapes of petals or leaves of plants. The three parts grow to a height of 5.5 meters and are axially symmetrical. They do not touch each other, allowing air, light, and sound to flow through the narrow gaps between them. During their stay, visitors should feel both in an open and enclosed space simultaneously. The photographs taken by the British site Building Design on the night of July 10, 2007, show how the fabric funnels are illuminated with various floral patterns. The full summer pavilion will be assembled during August and will remain in Kensington Gardens until November. Zaha Hadid is the third office to be commissioned for this year's pavilion for the Serpentine gallery. After Frei Otto, the commission was taken over in March by Kjetil Thorsen and Olafur Eliasson.
